The best Fashion Exhibits that you should visit in 2018

2018 is the start of a new fashion calendar. As we enter in this new calendar some of industries leading fashion houses, and designers prepare to share their visions. However some have chosen to look back on the extensive history of fashion for some inspiration. There has not been a better time to start exploring the trends, and movements that have shaped the course of fashion throughout the years. An easy way would be to go to a museum exhibit. Based off of Fashion United here are the top ten leading fashion exhibits from across the world.

1.) Oliver Theyskens: "She Walks in Beauty"

Where: Mode Museum, Antwerpen 

When: October 10, 2017 - April 15, 2018

According to Fashion United, Belgium Designer Oliver Theyskens is the center of this exhibit at MoMu in Antwerpen. The exhibit, "She Walks in Beauty," aims to take patrons through designers creative evolution through the past twenty years. Not only showcasing some of the most iconic designers but the exhibit also includes literary works, photographs, films, and sketches all that showcase the creative process. 

2.) Guo Pei: "Couture Beyond"

Where: SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, Savannah Georgia

When: October 27, 2017 - March 4, 2018

The U.S. solo exhibit entitled "Couture Beyond," of the Chinese National Designer who was invited to the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture according to Fashion United. Showcased at the SCAD Museum of Fashion + Film which will present over 30 designers, all from the last decade. The goal of the exhibit is to explore Pei's integration of contemporary fashion into ancient traditional dressing.

3.) Gianni Versace: "Retrospective"

Where: Kronprinzenpalain, Berlin

When: January 30 - April 15, 2018

Gianni Versace was prominent for his first Fashion Show taking place in Germany in 1978, then hosting his first exhibit in Berlin three years before he was murdered in his home in Miami, Florida. Two decades after his murder, the city of Berlin wanted to commemorate the fashion designer through life, and work with the exhibit of "Retrospective." The exhibit showcases items from private collectors around the world as well as close relatives. Retrospective will also include famous pieces worn by celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John, Prince, and along with models Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer. 

4.) "Royal Women"

Where: The Fashion Museum, Bath

When: February 3 - April 28, 2018

The exhibit "Royal Women," is set to showcase different designs worn by the generations of women in the Royal Family. The designs are displayed in a 'family tree,' layout. It includes clothes worn by Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and Princess Margaret. According to Fashion United the exhibit will include items of dress from the Fashion Museum collection along with other significant loan from the Royal Collection, which was loaned by Her Majesty The Queen. Some of the highlights of this exhibit include the royal wedding dress of Alexandra, a dress and cape made by Hartnell, and worn by Queen Mary.

5.) "Fashioned from Nature"

Where: The Victoria & Albert, London

When: April 21, 2018 - January 27, 2019

The first UK exhibit is set to explore the complex relationship between fashion, and nature starting back to the 1600's and ending in the present day. This one of a kind exposition will display fashion garments side by side with natural specimens, innovative new fabrics, and the dying process to persuade patrons to think about where their clothes are made from. The main goal is to discover the never ending demand for raw materials in fashion and how it damages the environment. The exhibit is also set to feature different protesting groups who have effectively highlighted issues such as Fashion Revolution, and Vivienne Westwood.

6.) "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and The Catholic Imagination"

Where: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 

When:  May 10 - October 8, 2018

According to Fashion United, The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's Spring 2018 exhibit is set to study the relationship between fashion, and religious artworks from the MET's Collection. "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and The Catholic Imagination," is aimed to look into the continuing relationship of creativity and religious imagination. One way was by engaging in the fashion industries devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism.

7.) Azzedine Alaïa: "The Couturier"

Where: The Design Museum, London

When: May 10 - October 7, 2018

"The Couturier," is set to focus on the legendary life, and work of fashion designer Azzedine. The exhibit will explore both his career and creative process. According to Fashion United the late designer was iconically known for his mastery of cut, fit, tailoring, all of innovative forms of materials. The exhibit will be showcasing 60 pieces of his work from the past 35 years.

8.) "Haute Dentelle-Designer Lace"

Where: Museum of Fashion and Lace, Calais

When: June 9, 2018 - January 6, 2019

The exhibit of "Haute Dentelle-Designer Lace," is set to display handmade, and mechanical lace. Patrons will be given the opportunity to explore contemporary usages of lace woven by designers. The exhibit will be Curated by, Sylvie Marot. The goal is to highlight the exchanges of two different creative propositions. On display will be 60 pieces from thirteen fashion houses such as Chanel, Christian Dior, and Iris Van Herpen.

9.) "Dior from Paris to the World"

Where: Denver Art Museum, Colorado

When: November 18, 2018 - March 3, 2019

According to Fashion United, The Denver Art Museum will be hosting the first major US retrospective of French luxury fashion house Christian Dior. This exhibit is set to display 70 years worth of the Mason's history focusing on the iconic designer Christian Dior through Dior's artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The exhibit will hold more than 150 couture dresses, along side with accessories, costume jewelry, photographs, drawings, runway footages, and other materials from Dior's archive will accomplish the goal of outlining the history of the haute couture Fashion House.

10.) Martin Margiela: "Retrospective"

Where: Palais Galliera, Paris

When: March 3 - July 15, 2018

Dedicated to Designer Martin Margiela, the exhibit traces back his career from 1989 to 2009. The exhibit will go back to his 1989 Spring/Summer Collection and end with his Spring/Summer Collection in 2009. More than 100 different pieces will be on display to highlight the creative usage of reconstructing, and deconstructing. "Retrospective," will be held at the Musee de la Mode in Paris.
