A new era has begun
The question on everyone's mind, prior to the debut, was whether or not the transition in leadership would affect the esteem of the luxury fashion brand, Louis Vuitton. Virgil Abloh debuted as Louis Vuitton men's Artistic Director with the Mens Spring/Summer 2019 Collection which eased everyone's mind with a stunning array of creativity, and symbolism. During the Paris Fashion Week, Abloh, "came, saw, and took us over the rainbow."
Throughout the collection, according to Vogue Magazine, Abloh heavily referred to the Micheal Jackson/ Lionel Richie Charity Single "We are the world," Afro-Cultural Creativity in music, and style, which was proven to be a successful kick-start to begin his position. The central visual of the show was however the rainbow, which symbolized all colors, all nationalities, all identities, and generations are welcomed by the luxury fashion brand.
The collection started off with a presentation of all white, with layers of garments, playing with different silhouettes. As the runway continues, Abloh evolves into launching different hues such as yellow, red, and teal bringing together a straightforward, modern, ready-to-wear ensemble. The iconic Louis Vuitton bag gets an updated with bright green and holographic completed with a bulky chain handle. Completing the collection comes a lineup of florals, and splashed prints.
The Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2019 Menswear collection fearlessly displayed Virgil Abloh's creative skills. This collection has ushered in a new era for the luxury fashion brand.
