Donatella Versace created a Feminist Themed collection
This past year has been about social issues coming to the forefront of majority of our political discussions. According to Fashionista, Donatella Versace was inspired by this, and themed her 2018 Resort Collection around feminism, "...with undertones of athleticism and power dressing in lieu of Versace's signature provocative silhouettes..." Along with this Versace also put words like "equality" and "power" directly onto the clothing, and accessories. The brand was also inspired by the snake-haired mythological monster, Medusa.
According to Fashionista, the brand didn't overuse the Medusa theme. The brand statement reads, "The eternal symbol of power - the Medusa - represents the independent woman whose allure is oh so strong, especially today." Power dressing, 80's and 90's prints, and logos is how Versace chose to visually interpret the theme in their collection. "Who is she today? All of you out there who are afraid to speak up to state your truth. The modern day Medusa carries her DNA into the contemporary city scape, where she is a true warrior, proudly carrying the Versace flag," continued the statement.
The bold printed pants, according to Fashionista alluded to how Medusa, "doesn't have to prove anything to anyone." The little cocktail dress was crucial since she is the goddess of night. However the sporty formal wear, and elegant activewear is how our modern day Medusa 'handles it all.'
