Kate Spade Donates To Mental Awareness Causes

Kate Spade New York donates $1 Million to Mental Health Awareness Causes in Honor of their founder

In light of the tragic death of Kate Spade, her company has decided to pay homage to her by pledging to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The company posted on their Instagram page, "In honor of our company founder, Kate Spade, our foundation is donating over $1 Million to suicide prevention, and mental health awareness causes, starting with $250,000 to the @crisistextline. From June 20, to June, 29 2018, the Kate Spade New York foundation will also match public donations made to the crisis text line up to the amount of $100,000. Kate Spade is survived by her husband Andy Spade, and 13 year old daughter Frances Spade. Her husband said in a statement that the iconic designer had struggled with anxiety and depression, however the suicide was a shock to even those closest to her. 

In addition to the donations according to TODAY the company will also put forth a wellness program which will include a Global Mental Health Awareness Day, and a new curriculum to educate employees on "common risks, and warning signs." 

Three days later the famed chef and TV personal Anthony Bourdain also committed suicide. Their deaths have reinstated conversations on mental health awareness. Kate Spade's company is helping bring awareness, and paying tribute to their founder.
